Everybody’s favorite Mexican drinking holiday is upon us. If you’re looking for some place to spend your Cinco de Mayo, look no further. We’ve compiled some great spots for you to enjoy tacos, tequila and terrible decisions. Where will you be this year?
Bodega Taqueria y Tequila
Bodega Taqueria y Tequila will be throwing a huge Cinco de Mayo neighborhood block party. On May 5, you can expect a live mariachi band — Fiesta Grande — along with drink specials including $5 Modelos and $6 margaritas all day long from the food truck. In the evening, $5 shot specials will start at 6 p.m. along with music and a food cart outside offering complimentary churros.
Bodega will also be featuring a “shot chair” where two lovely ladies will be pouring tequila shots directly into mouths of thirsty guests. Take a picture in the chair and hashtag #dobellayback to get the chance to receive a free bottle of Dobel Tequila. There will also be a piñata, sombreros and maracas for guests. Bodega’s full menu will be available as well to help you soak up all the drinks.
Radio Bar is offering an classy alternative to the debauchery on Cinco de Mayo with its monthly mixology class. On that Tuesday, Radio Bar will be hosting its May Mixology Class from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. In honor of the holiday, this month’s spirit is tequila. Radio bartender Teddy Collins and a special guest will be teaching attendees how to make two tequila cocktails. There will be giveaways at the end of the course.
We’re expecting big things at this Cinco de Mayo joint collaboration involving J. Wakefield Brewing, The Federal’s Cesar Zapata and Miami Herald’s in-house foodie Evan Benn. The evening begins with a cocktail session from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. that features tequila shots, appetizers and flavorful concoctions like the Passion Fruit Margarita Berlinerweisse.
A five-course feast follows the reception. Each of the five courses is paired with a brew specially treated for the meal, and diners can expect a few extra goodies as well. The meal costs $65 per person, and tickets can be pre-purchased on The Federal’s official website.
Jalapeño Mexican Kitchen
Jalapeño Mexican Kitchen and Power96 are hosting a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on Ocean Drive. Throughout the event, you can take advantage of $3 street tacos, $4 beers and $5 margaritas (courtesy of Herradura Tequila and Cointreau). A live broacast with the Power96 Morning Show Crew starts at 5 p.m.
There will also be plenty of contests and giveaways including the Largest Sombrero Contest and a Macho Nacho eating competition. A photo booth, live DJ and mariachi band round out the festivities. In the spirit of Cinco de Mayo, French Mediterranean restaurant Villa Azur is serving a delectable libation for the holiday. Using crisp seasonal ingredients like watermelon, cilantro, and fresh lime, Head Bartender Martin Gutierrez has created a tasty Watermelon Cilantro Margarita with a Don Julio Reposado base and a splash of cointreau that’s perfect for celebrating. The cocktail costs $14.
The Gale Rooftop
Come celebrate May 5 at The Gale Rooftop’s grand Cinco de Mayo party! Guests will enjoy live music by DJ Pirate Stereo and the Fox Brothers while sipping on tequila and margaritas from the tequila station and build-your-own margarita bar. The party also features piñatas and a dog adoption area. There is no cover charge.
The Shelborne Wyndham Grand’s Oasis
Spend May 5 poolside at the Shelborne Wyndham Grand’s Oasis. You’re invited to relax with delicious food and drink specials while enjoying a live mariachi band and dancing to the fun Latin beats from the house DJ. Mexican inspired bites by the pool include carne asada tacos with chili charred beef ($16); chicken taquitos with pico de gallo ($10); and smashed avocado with fire-roasted salsa and crispy tortillas ($7). Patrons can also enjoy Mexican beer and cocktail specials at Oasis and inside Drawing Room Bar & Lounge. including Margaritas ($12), Milagro Tequila shots ($10), Michelada ($9), and bottles of Corona ($5).
