Funky Buddha Opens Craft Food Counter & Kitchen

Funky Buddha

Craft Food Counter & Kitchen is open! Funky Buddha Brewery’s fast casual kitchen debuted on Wednesday, November 11 featuring scratchmade pub fare with a crafty focus.

Craft Food Counter & Kitchen is helmed by Jeff Vincent, a South Carolina native and veteran head chef who most recently brought acclaim to the fantastic Beauty & the Feast inside the Atlantic Hotel on Fort Lauderdale beach. His eclectic style draws on his low country roots and European training, imparting a refined Southern twang to Craft Food Counter’s menu.

CFC’s menu was designed completely with Funky Buddha’s awardwinning beer in mind. Start off with the affordable and sharable “Splitters” section: CFC’s soontobefamous “Tap Room Pretzel” ($5.95) is made with spent grain from the brewhouse and served with spicy, wholegrain Doc Brown Ale mustard. Beerfriendly “Funky Wings” ($9.95) are draped in Chef Vincent’s own Carolina mustard BBQ sauce, while his “Blistered Shishito Peppers” are served with smoked peanuts and a gentle sprinkle of sea salt ($6.95); the later is a fitting pair for a cold pint of On Top Blonde Ale.

Larger dishes showcase CFC’s commitment to fresh ingredients and scratchmade cooking. “Local Burrata” salad is served with Parmesan toast points and seasonal tomatoes ($13.95). Housemade “Craft Bratwurst” ($9.95) is first braised in Hop Gun IPA then grilled, and served with brewhouse cabbage and sautéed onions. Handdipped “SouthernFried Chicken” comes hoisted on a “BigAss Beer Cheddar Biscuit” doused in luscious sawmill gravy ($11.95).

Craft Food Counter & Kitchen is open inside Funky Buddha Brewery from noon to midnight every day.

Misha’s Cupcakes and Children’s Bereavement Center Team Up

Grief Awareness.v2

Thursday, November 19, 2015 will mark the national recognition of Children’s Grief Awareness Day. Local organizations such as the Children’s Bereavement Center (CBC), with centers in Miami-Dade and Broward as well as national associations such as the National Alliance for Grieving Children (NAGC) are engaged in outreach and awareness campaigns to make the Thursday before Thanksgiving an annual, national day of recognition. Children are often the forgotten mourners. This day is intended to bring light to the children in our communities who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

Misha’s Cupcakes has partnered with the CBC this year with a special in-store promotion! All proceeds from her special CBC blue and green frosted vanilla mini’s being sold in all 5 store locations on November 19th, will be donated to the Children’s Bereavement Center. Owner and Misha’s Cupcake founder, Misha Kuryla Gomez said “I support the CBC because they have a huge responsibility in the community, and care for people who do not have a voice or the means to express themselves since they are children.”

The Children’s Bereavement Center provides free Peer Support Groups for children and their family members after a loss. Groups are open to anyone who has lost a parent, sibling, grandparent, relative, or friend as a result of illness, accident, suicide, or homicide. The CBC Peer Support Groups are ongoing and families are able to attend for as long as needed. The CBC does not engage in clinical therapy.

Groups are held weekly throughout the school year, and are open to children age 5 through young adult as well as parents and adult caregivers. Adult support groups are available in both English and Spanish. Free pizza dinner is also provided prior to groups. Families must attend a CBC Orientation (held monthly) prior to attending groups. Please contact the CBC office at 305-668-4902 for information or to register.

Fooq’s Announces “Fooq’s and Friends” Dinner Series

Fooq’s is pleased to present ‘Fooq’s & Friends,’ a series of one-of-a-kind dinners that will host some of Miami’s most talented chefs. To kick off the series, Fooq’s will host Chef Alex Chang of Vagabond Restaurant & Bar for a néo-bistrot style dinner on Sunday, November 22nd 2015, with two seatings available either at 6:30pm or 9:00pm. The menu will feature dishes that take an eclectic approach to classic French cuisine, with 5 courses priced at $65 per person, and a $35 wine pairing option, hand-selected by owner and honorary Sommelier of the evening, David Foulquier.

Chef Alex Chang of Vagabond Restaurant & Bar will feature a number of French bistro staples like guests have never seen before. The classic vegetable dish is revamped and reinvented in the Ember roasted carrots served with shaved foie, katsuobushi, and mamey. The plate is a cultural fusion of French-bistro classics with unexpected flavors found in the Japanese katsuobushi and mamey, a fruit familiar to Latin American and Caribbean fares. Equally intriguing is the Brassicas, served with smoked oyster, reduced whey and bone marrow.

What initially drew owner David Foulquier to the néo-bistrot concept was the accessibility factor. “Our pop-up will give guests a chance to experience the supreme value of high-end restaurants, but in the remote comfort of Fooq’s” says Foulquier. The néo-bistrot movement inspires a league of finely trained chefs from around the world to strive for more than a fame. Chefs behind the movement are encouraged to explore their culinary interests and merge an eclectic mix of flavors to create something new, expressive, and personal.

A passionate gourmand and world-traveler himself, Foulquier has redefined comfort food in the Miami restaurant scene with his eclectic palette and sheer passion for food. Cultivating a zone of good-vibes-only, Foulquier knows a thing or two about good food and good times. The series will continue with a variation of menus and notable Chefs. Tickets may be purchased here or by emailing

Verde Launches New Exhibit-Inspired Menu

Verde at Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is offering a special, pre-fixe menu to honor the new ‘Sun Splashed’ exhibit created by Nari Ward. Executive Chef Kaytlin Brakefield translates the artist’s vision of embracing various media channels with the recurrent use of found objects to represent native Jamaica including the ideas of migration and movement, urban space and vernacular traditions.

In her translation, Chef Kaytlin constructed a menu that incorporates a traditional Jamaican ingredient, repurposes often “lost” ingredients and references instillations within the exhibit. To start, guests can enjoy the Calabaza and Corn Soup with coconut milk, spiced pumpkin seeds and squat blossom chips, served tableside. As the main entrée, guests will have the Oxtail Ravioli, made from Pasta Scraps and Traditional Jamaican Ingredient, Oxtail with brown butter and sage. The meal ends on a tropical, sweet note with Rum Bread Pudding with mango sauce, repurposing day-old bread and mango found in other dishes within the kitchen.
