Wag Wednesday: Tomas Prado & Amanda

wag-wednesday

Over the past year, we’ve interviewed many members of the hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers. That’s why we launched an ongoing feature called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets.

This week, we’re featuring Tomas Prado,‎ Executive Chef at Golden Fig, and his shih tzu, Amanda.

Your Name: Tomas Prado

Your Pet’s Name: Amanda

Sex: Female

Age: 2

Breed: Shih Tzu

How did you come to own your dog? What drew you to them?

When our first dog passed away, my wife and I were a bit down and after a few weeks we decided we needed another dog. We searched for a while and looked at a few different breeds, but ultimately we decided we wanted another shih tzu. We contacted a local breeder and he had about 12 dogs available from 2 different litters. It was a hard choice. Ultimately, we chose Amanda because she was the smallest of the litter and she would stick her tongue out all the time. We had to have her.

How would you describe your dog’s personality?

She is very loving and playful, but she has attitude.

How has owning a pet made your life richer?

Dogs are amazing. No matter what type of day you have had, they are always there to greet you when you get home and give you affection. It can turn a bad day around and make me smile instantly.

It’s said that dogs reflect their owners and vice versa. How does this apply to you and yours?

I believe so. We are both very friendly and loving, but if you rub us the wrong way, we will snap back.

Tell us a funny story about you and your dog.

One day, my wife comes from work and notices the dog doesn’t come to the door like usual. She starts looking for her and notices a tail wagging from a crevice in our sofa. Amanda managed to lodge herself under the armrest of the sofa and couldn’t get out. All you can see was her tail wagging. She is a trouble maker.

Are you involved in any pet organizations or philanthropies?

We donate to various dog charities like the Humane Society and ASPCA. My wife also volunteers at the Wild Bird sanctuary in the Florida Keys.

We follow a lot of dog social media accounts like Doug the Pug and Menswear Dog. Do you? Which are your favorites?

Doug the Pug is great. We also enjoy @stitchbully and  @marnithedog.
