Wag Wednesday: Michael Lewis & Bacon

wag-wednesday

Over the past year, we’ve interviewed many members of the hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers. That’s why we launched an ongoing feature called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets. Know someone who wants to be featured? Email us at bark@miamifoodpug.com.

This week, we’re featuring Michael Lewis,‎ Executive Chef and Owner of KYU, and his Mix Alaskan Malamute, Bacon

How did you come to own your dog? What drew you to them?

I don’t own him – he’s family. He was a wedding present for my wife on our wedding day.

What’s the story behind your dog’s name? How would you describe your dog’s personality?

He’s Bacon — he just is.

How has owning a pet made your life richer?

Bacon makes me happy. Anytime, no matter what I have going on or how busy I am. He just makes me happy.

It’s said that dogs reflect their owners and vice versa. How does this apply to you and yours?

We both love our family and spending time together. We’re fiercely loyal and know when a good hug can cure almost anything.

Tell us a funny story about your and your dog.

I closed the door behind me when we were having a family BBQ in the garden one day, not realizing that he had followed me inside. He ran through the house and found the window open in our bedroom. When I saw him jumping through the screen of said window to get back outside with us, I ran over to catch him so he wouldn’t break a leg or something. In turn, I broke my wrist. He is 100 pounds after all.

Are you involved in any pet organizations or philanthropies?

HomeAgain and Change.org.

We follow a lot of dog social media accounts like Doug the Pug and Menswear Dog. Do you? Which are your favorites?

Not really dogs, but BJWT [Black Jaguar White Tiger] and Richard Barry.
