Almost two years ago, BurgerFi opened up on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. Despite living just around the corner, we’ve only ever been there once. And that one time, we didn’t have burgers — just their shakes. Having finally tried their signature item, we deeply regret putting off our burger visit for so long.
For those not familiar with the brand, BurgerFi is a national burger chain that takes its craft very seriously. The company touts its better approach to burgers, which are hormone free, antibiotic free, chemical free and practically free of anything except beef. They also claim to forgo the use of other conventional kitchen items like microwaves and freezers. As you can see, this isn’t your typical fast-casual burger.
And you can taste the difference immediately once you bite into one of their burgers. It’s quality beef at a price that won’t break the bank. In other words, it’s magical.
We started our visit with the Breakfast All Day Burger, which gives guests the chance to have the most important meal of the day for lunch and dinner, too. But chances are you won’t be eating for the rest of the day after this behemoth burger, which packs a fried egg, bacon, hash browns and maple syrup. It sounds like a mess — and indeed it gets messy — but it’s a delicious mess that’s perfect when you’re craving a late-day breakfast (or you’re hungover).
Instead of getting the regular BurgerFi burger, we went all in with the Twenty Eight, which gets its name from the double 28-day dry-aged ground brisket it uses. Just like its breakfast brother, this item is huge and loaded with goodies including a swiss and blue cheese combo that really help gives the burger a distinct taste — funky yet fantastic. It’s a little pricier than the other burgers, but it’s worth splurging for the brisket.
Don’t let the name fool you: BurgerFi is more than just burgers. Craving a hot dog? You can’t go wrong with their kobe-style wieners that you can top with kraut and mustard (New York style); chili, cheese and hot sauce (Texas style); or mustard and all the Chicago toppings on a poppy seed bun. We went the Chicago route, and it had us reminiscing about our time in the Windy City. Good stuff.
Regardless of what you choose, get some fries or onion rings. Or better yet, get both with the Cry + Fry. Just don’t get it all for yourself. We easily split this side between us, so unless you’re feeling like hitting the gym extra hard, stick with one or the other if you’re eating solo.
Those concretes, doe. Now that’s something you’ll want all to yourself. Those things are dangerous. The Oh My Chocolate had us saying, “Oh my God” plenty of times as we wrapped up our meal. With chocolate custard, chocolate brownie, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate chips and peanut butter, it was the definition of decadence. There are also regular shakes if you don’t want to spend the rest of the week eating salads — we can vouch for the red velvet.
It’s a damn shame we waited so long to truly check this place out. Now we know that if we want a quality burger at a budget-friendly price, we can count on BurgerFi to satisfy that craving.
