The annual Taste of the Caribbean competition brings together top chefs from all over the islands to battle each other and be crowned the best in the region. Although this is typically an industry event, Taste of the Caribbean opens its doors to the public for one night only: the Taste of the Islands festival, where guests can try incredible dishes and drinks from all the teams participating.
Last week, we attended the festival at Downtown’s Hyatt Regency and tried cuisine from 13 different teams, including Curaçao, St. Maarten, Trinidad and Tobago, Bonaire and Anguilla. Each team had to prepare a savory dish and a sweet dish along with a cocktail; the teams were comprised of two senior chefs, one junior chef, one bartender, one pastry chef and one manager.
Food was just one part of the celebration. Caribbean music, performances and presentations abound, including a fun bartender showdown between previous Caribbean Bartender of the Year winners. Check out our photo gallery below to relive the event.
