Wag Wednesday: Marisa Marcus & Donovan Sklawer

wag-wednesday

Since starting the blog, we’ve interviewed many members of the hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers. That’s why we launched an ongoing feature called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets. Know someone who wants to be featured? Email us at bark@miamifoodpug.com.

This week, we’re featuring Marisa Marcus, VP of Marketing at Menin Hospitality, and her Bichon Frise, Donovan Sklawer.

Marisa Marcus & Donovan Sklawer

Your Name: Marisa Marcus

Your Pet’s Name: Donovan Sklawer

Sex: Male

Age: 4 months

Breed: Bichon Frise

How did you come to own your dog? What drew you to them?

I grew up having Bichons. My parents travel a lot, and my husband Mitch and I were used to taking care of that breed. We always talked about it but never pulled the trigger. Last month, we woke up on a Sunday (I was hungover) and he said, “Why don’t we just get a Bichon?”

What’s the story behind your dog’s name?

It was super hard to come up with a name. As we were spitting out different ideas, I said how about Donovan? Mitch said, “Yeah, that works.” The name comes from the place where we got married in Vail … Donovan Pavilion.

How would you describe your dog’s personality?

Super friendly — to the extent that if someone random across the street doesn’t run over and give him attention, he gets offended.

How has owning a pet made your life richer?

Other than trying to get him to pee and poop outside, he makes us so happy every day. We both feel like we have a perfect family.

It’s said that dogs reflect their owners and vice versa. How does this apply to you and yours?

I’m not sure yet — he is still such a puppy! But a couple friends have already joked that Donovan and Mitch look alike.

Tell us a funny story about you and your dog(s).

We have a full length mirror in the living room, and he spent his first day at the house barking at it!

Are you involved in any dog organizations or philanthropies?

We are not. But now that we have one, I can see us being more active.

We follow a lot of dog social media accounts like Doug the Pug, Rocco’s Contemporary Life, and Menswear Dog. Do you? Which are your favorites?

We don’t really follow, but for some reason we have always had Boo as a follower.
