Wag Wednesday: Saul Ramos & Leah

wag-wednesday

Since starting the blog, we’ve interviewed many members of the hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers. That’s why we launched an ongoing feature called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets. Know someone who wants to be featured? Email us at bark@miamifoodpug.com.

This week, we’re featuring Saul Ramos, Chef de Cuisine at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, and his Doberman Pinscher, Leah.

Your Name: Saul Ramos

Your Pet’s Name: Leah

Sex: Female

Age: 2 years

Breed: Doberman Pinscher

How did you come to own your dog? What drew you to her?

About two years ago, my friend and ex-coworker asked if I wanted to adopt a puppy. It turns out his family had a bigger-than-expected litter of Doberman puppies, and they all needed homes!

My fiancé and I had spoken about getting a dog but didn’t have immediate plans to get one as we were in the middle of moving and settling down in Florida. When I heard they were Doberman puppies, it instantly drew me as my grandma had a Doberman when I was growing up.

When picking her out, Leah’s floppy ears, gentle eyes and submissiveness were the selling points for me. She was so small, and her ears and paws were so big. My fiancé was out of town the weekend I got her, and so when I picked her up from the airport it was a surprise. She fell in love instantly, just like I did.

What’s the story behind your dog’s name?

My fiancé picked the name out. She thought ‘Leah’ was a very pretty and delicate name — just like her!

How would you describe your dog’s personality?

I think that the word that BEST describes her is “sweet.” She’s also very playful (she’s 2, after all) and the biggest diva. She loves attention and needs to be touched all the time. If there’s not enough room on the bed, she will go into her kennel and pout. The best thing about her, though, is how smart she is. She was so easy to train and is so much easier to love when she’s not being naughty!

How has owning a pet made your life richer?

All around, it has made my life so much better. It’s the best feeling coming home after a long day in the kitchen with her waiting so eagerly to see me! She loves me unconditionally, and it reminds me to be more open and accepting of others.

It’s said that dogs reflect their owners and vice versa. How does this apply to you and yours?

Leah likes to act like a puppy a lot, and I like to channel my inner kid. We also both snore, smell sometimes, love to eat and love kissing Mom!

Tell us a funny story about you and your dog.

The funniest moments always happen when I play with her after work. Every night, we’ll wrestle and roughhouse. I’ll cover my head up with a blanket and just lay on the floor while she barks and tries to get the blanket off of my head.

Are you involved in any pet organizations or philanthropies?

At the moment, no.

We follow a lot of dog social media accounts like Doug the Pug, Rocco’s Contemporary Life, and Menswear Dog. Do you? Which are your favorites?
