MFP’s Picks of the Month – December 2016

If you haven’t noticed, we go out to eat a lot. It’s sometimes hard to keep track of the best spots we’ve visited each month (and week and day). That’s why we’ve decided to put together a monthly list of our top picks. You can expect restaurants both young and old on this list — we’re always discovering new spots on our foodie adventures.

Here are our top picks for December 2016.

Bakehouse Brasserie

What’s better than brunch? All-day brunch. This Parisian addition to South of Fifth (SoFi) makes that dream a reality with a scrumptious French-inspired menu and unique takes on Miami staples. Case in point: The mouthwatering Duck Confit Pastelito is a must whether you’re dining in or grabbing and going.

If you do decide to dine in (you should) and you’re starving, the hearty Country Benedict with habanero-maple sausage, a cheddar biscuit and mushroom gravy will do the trick. Want something lighter? The Faro Island Salmon was one of the best dishes we had last year, and we’re pretty sure you’ll agree. Look out for our full review soon.

Pappardelle with Spicy Sausage Ragu, Kale & Parmigiano

Stephen Starr is killing it in Miami. We’re huge fans of The Continental, Steak 954 and Le Zoo, but his latest Miami venture is easily our favorite of the bunch. Since Upland just opened, skip the wait for a table and grab a seat at the bar; the full menu is available there, too. Try their pineapple take on an old fashioned, and order the Pappardelle (spicy sausage ragu, kale and Parmesan cheese). You won’t be disappointed.

Lots of Lox

Lots of Lox is pretty far south (14995 S. Dixie Hwy), but the New York-style deli is well worth the drive. The sandwiches are humongous  — meats on meats on meats — and the service is fast and friendly. You can’t go wrong with the Hot N.Y. Corned Beef or Combo Reuben (1/2 corned beef and 1/2 pastrami) sandwiches. Not in the mood for a deli sandwich? You can also choose from burgers, hot dogs, salads and other filling fare. One more thing: Don’t forget to check the boards for specials.
