Before eating at Jack’s Home Cooking, there’s one rule you need to follow: Leave your diet at the door. This red-sauce Italian joint’s goal is to fill you up with delicious comfort food, and they succeed in spades. Put on some stretchy sweat pants, grab a seat and get ready to eat.
Think of your favorite Italian-American dishes. Odds are you’ll find them on the menu at Jack’s. Nonna’s Meatballs? Check. Eggplant Rollatini? Yup. Sausage and Peppers? Of course. All three make an appearance as starters, and it was tough choosing just one; we needed to pace ourselves because portions here can feed an entire family (no exaggeration).
We ended up picking the sausage and peppers, which took up a significant chunk of our table. While the peppers have some great flavor, the sausage is what really sells the dish. We could easily eat the sausage as our whole meal and leave satisfied. Don’t do that, though, since you’ll need room for pasta.
The Rigatoni with Sunday Gravy lives up to the hype. The kitchen made us a small portion since we had other items left to eat, but as you can see, it’s still huge. Meatball, sausage and Sunday gravy make for a hearty feast that’s perfect for two people or one very hungry individual. Honestly, though, you’re probably going to take some home since it’s a lot. It’s meat heaven, and each bite tastes divine.
Speaking of large portions, prepare to have your jaw drop at the sight of the Chicken Parmesan. The giant slab of poultry is covered in melted mozzarella and marinara sauce, and it takes “eating with your eyes” to a whole new level. This dish ever-so-slightly edged out the rigatoni as the highlight of the evening, but you can’t go wrong with either. You get your money’s worth and then some.
Dessert was the smallest dish of the night and thankfully so. At this point in the meal, we had to unbuckle our belts. The housemade cannoli are small in stature but pack quite a punch due to their generous cream filling and perfect shells. For those who want to go out with a bang, there are more decadent options like an NY Style Cheesecake and 7-Layer Chocolate Cake.
A nap will be needed after a meal at Jack’s. You may also need to be rolled out of the restaurant, but you’ll have a smile on your face the whole time. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen in Miami. It’s hard to stand out in such a large crowd, but Jack’s Home Cooking does it with quality food and affordable prices that are hard to match.
