Travel is one of life’s greatest pleasures, but it’s not exactly the most affordable. With Area 31, though, you can experience cuisine from all around the world without breaking the bank. Last month, the restaurant debuted a new monthly series — Menu Trotting With Chef Wolfgang Birk — that highlights a specific region’s fare for an entire week. At $55 (and $20 for an optional wine tasting), it’s a steal.
The series kicked off on March 27 with a Northern Italian tasting comprised of four courses and an amuse bouche (crispy oyster). Here’s a closer look at the evening’s menu:
Beef carpaccio, micro watercress, radish, Parmigiana Reggiano
Scampi carbonara, artichoke, saffron, rosemary, speck, stracci
Monkfish Stew, tomatoes, Taggiasca olives, potatoes, gigante beans
Rhubarb tart, Italian meringue
By the end of the meal, we were stuffed with Italian deliciousness. If you missed March’s dinner, don’t worry: The April series starts Monday, April 24 and will run through Sunday, April 30. Guests can again expect four courses and an amuse bouche, but they’ll be visiting the Basque Country/Spain this time around. The Menu Trotting series will continue to be offered the last week of every month leading up to Miami Spice in August:
Monday, May 22 – Sunday, May 28 – Portugal
Monday, June 19 – Sunday, June 25 – Argentina
Monday, July 24 – Sunday, July 30 – Chile
