YAKU by La Mar: What a View

The Brickell skyline is one of Miami’s nicest views, and YAKU by La Mar gives guests a front row seat to the spectacle. Located on the Northern Terrace of La Mar by Gaston Acurio, YAKU provides a more low-key experience than its upscale brother; it’s ideal for Peruvian cocktails and small bites instead of a full-on meal. If you love La Mar — we do — you’re certainly going to love YAKU.

As we mentioned earlier, small bites dominate the menu at YAKU. You can and should order a bunch of them: Not only are the dishes packed with flavor, but they’re also extremely reasonable ($8). Heck, you might as well order them all. Here’s the full list:

Cebiche Tostada
tuna tartare, crispy onions, chipotle aioli, avocado

Coctel de Camarones
la mar style, leche de tigre, avocado, tobiko

Quinoa Burger (V)
alfalfa sprouts, pickles, chimichurri and caramelized onions

Pescao
crispy fish with spicy tartare sauce and criolla

KFC Popcorn
korean fried chicken with peruvian chilies, gochujang, sesame, scallions

Empanadas
filled with aji de gallina, manchego cheese, pecans

Los Choritos
mussels in their juice with caucau flavors, toasted bread and crostini

Are you drooling yet? Wait until you see the drink list. While there is beer and wine available, the main attractions are the $12 punch cocktails. The first two on the list — Yaku and La Picarona — are rum-based and bright featuring a variety of juices; you almost feel healthy drinking them. The Sexy Bombon Punch swaps rum for bourbon and uses an orange-cinnamon infused simple syrup for a distinct and addicting taste. You can’t leave YAKU without ordering a pisco cocktail, and Amorcito is a fantastic mix of ginger-infused pisco quebranta, lime juice, pineapple juice, eucalyptus syrup, ginger beer and Angostura bitters. Say that three times fast.

With a killer view and a menu by one of Miami’s top chefs, YAKU by La Mar has all the ingredients necessary for becoming your new favorite weekend spot. So head on over to Brickell Key and experience YAKU for yourself — you won’t be disappointed.
