Broward foodies have a new restaurant to check out: Terra Mare. The oceanfront eatery, whose name means land and sea in Italian, is serving up delightfully bright dishes with a impressive view of Fort Lauderdale Beach. Located inside Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach, Terra Mare is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Dishes are served as they’re ready at Terra Mare, and sharing is encouraged. Before you get down to business, though, take a look at the restaurant’s cocktail menu. You’ll find vibrant libations that incorporate a variety of cold-pressed juices; what you won’t find are unnatural additives. Now that you’ve grabbed yourself a Watermelon Mojito or a Triple B (Bulleit Bourbon, lemon, basil, blackberries), it’s time to eat.
The menu is big, but the super-friendly staff will help guide you through everything. For starters and small plates, there’s something for everybody; expect to see items like Nduja Stuffed Dates, Tuna Crudo, Grilled Romaine and Seared Scallops. If you only try one item in addition to your mains, make it the grilled romaine. All of its elements — anchovy, cherry tomato, avocado, Parmesan, bagna cauda vinaigrette — make for one tasty salad.
As the restaurant’s name suggests, the entrees and larger plates are split evenly between land and sea cuisine. Maybe we were inspired by the water, but we both opted for the latter — the Seared Salmon and Squid Ink Tagliatelle, specifically. Of the two, the seared salmon won our stomachs; it’s so colorful that we almost didn’t want to eat it (but we’re very glad we did). Throw in a hefty side like the Butternut Squash Purée and Pancetta, and you have yourself a satisfying meal.
Dessert is not to be missed here. Since we had so much food, we stuck to something light: the Passion Fruit Liquid Tart. Although it’s one of the lighter desserts, it’s still sizable and perfect for sharing. If we had more space, we probably would have gone with their signature ice creams; they bring out a toppings cart with everything from Swedish Fish to the kitchen sink.
The next time you’re in Broward and looking to make the most of a beautiful day, grab an outside table at Terra Mare. With a diverse menu, refreshing cocktails and a killer view, we won’t blame you if you spend your whole afternoon here.
