Italian food is our favorite cuisine. We just love the warm, fuzzy feeling you get after enjoying a heaping bowl of pasta or a delectable pizza. At Prezzo in Boca, that feeling was everywhere.
For locals, the name Prezzo should ring a bell. The Italian concept dates back to the ’90s, where it had a successful run before ultimately closing up shop. It’s back now — and this time with James Beard award-winning chef Mark Militello leading the kitchen. Chef Militello, a member of the famed “Mango Gang” that practically ran South Florida’s food scene in the ’80s and ’90s, has put together a vast menu of tasty Italian classics designed to make a regular out of you.
To start the meal, guests have no shortage of options. Cheese lovers will likely gravitate toward the mozzarella bar, which you can customize with an assortment of cheeses plus salami, speck, mortadella and just about anything you can think of. Not feeling fancy? That’s okay: Less decadent appetizers like Olives al Forno are plentiful, too.
Prezzo’s dishes are not lacking in the size department. Our Chicken Parmesan — two deliciously cheese-covered pieces of chicken atop a bed of noodles — lasted us for lunch and dinner the next day. Similarly, our exceptional Spaghetti Pomodoro kept us full well after the meal. We suggest you order an Arugula Salad or one of the other flavorful greens to help balance all the carbs.
Entrees here are typically in the $20-$30 range, which is more than reasonable for the quality. If you’re in the mood for something more casual, though, pizza is the way to go. We only had room for one — the Nonna — but we still think about that mouthwatering mix of salami, sausage, broccoli rabe, mozzarella and caciocavallo cheese.
Sweets like the oh-so-rich Butterscotch Budino will ensure your diet doesn’t live to see another day. You most likely won’t have room for dessert, but if you do, you’re in good hands. We’re just bummed that all this food is so far away. Boca isn’t a usual destination for us, but you can bet we’ll definitely consider checking out Prezzo whenever we’re back in town.
