When we think of Kendall, good food isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. You always see South Beach, Wynwood, Brickell and other neighborhoods getting all the attention — never Kendall.
It’s a shame that the neighborhood is often overlooked, as there are several hidden gems to be found throughout the community. Devon Seafood & Steak is one of them.
It should come as no surprise that seafood and steak make up the bulk of the menu at this restaurant. Before you dig into a juicy steak or a delicious salmon, though, it’s imperative you order a few starters. Appetizer options are plentiful and tasty; the Chicken Tortilla Soup and Ahi Tuna Tartare were two standouts we couldn’t get enough of. The former, in particular, tickled our fancy with generous amounts of cheese and flavor. There are over a dozen options in this menu section alone, so we suggest you go to town.
While you can order your steak or seafood on its own, the $39 and $48 prix-fixe menus are worth a look. For those prices, you get a starter, an entree and a dessert — all of which are giant portions. We chose the Maple Plank Roasted Salmon as our entree for this deal, which was an excellent choice; the whipped Yukon potatoes added even more depth to the dish. We couldn’t leave without trying a steak, though, so we also opted for the Gaucho Hanger Steak, a substantial item with some Latin flair.
In all likelihood, you won’t need dessert here. But if you do happen to have room, expect serving sizes large enough to feed four people. Case in point: a monstrous carrot cake that left us feeling amazing and guilty at the same time. Your diet will have to wait until Monday, especially if you order a Chocolate Velvet Cake, too.
The next time people tell you that Kendall doesn’t have good food, refer them to Devon Seafood & Steak. By the end of their meal, they’ll be singing a different tune.
