Salumeria 104: An Unforgettable Dining Experience

Every day, a new restaurant opens in Miami … or at least it seems like it. Given Miami’s fierce food scene, odds are they won’t last. It takes a lot for a restaurant to withstand the test of time and the city’s fickle food audience. Salumeria 104 has been a Midtown staple for years, and unlike other restaurants in the area, it’s succeeding — so much so that it’s expanded to the space next door (and to Coral Gables).

That growth says a lot. But despite it being open for a while now, we never actually visited Salumeria 104 until last month. We regret not visiting sooner.

At Salumeria 104, Executive Chef Angelo Masarin has put together a mouthwatering selection of Italian fare that will make you feel magnifico. Deliciousness awaits in the form of hearty pastas and proteins, all of which feature a wealth of flavors and textures that stay with you long after the meal.

We happened to visit during the Black Truffle Festival, and lucky for us, the blackboard specials put the flavorful fungi to work. Salumeria 104’s Black Truffle Burratina with arugula and a Truffle Cream Cheese Bruschetta with cotto ham immediately lit up our palates: The second each one hit our mouths, we could think of nothing else except ordering more.

On that note, it’s not often we stumble upon perfect pasta. But the Tagliolini with black summer truffle reminded us of such a possibility. The Black Truffle Festival may be over now, but we’ll never forget this fantastic dish that we fell in love with at first bite. Another special was the NY Steak with truffle mushroom demi-glace. And again, the impressive flavors made us wish the festival lasted all year long.

Although we were full, we couldn’t disappoint nonna and not order dessert. Tiramisu may not be the most exciting dessert on paper, but rest assured that Salumeria 104’s generous serving is indeed worth a bite (or 10) if you’re down for decadence. Don’t worry if you’re in the mood for something lighter, as the restaurant offers panna cotta and biscotti for smaller appetites as well.

Why we waited so long to visit Salumeria 104 is beyond us. This Midtown gem has been under our noses for so long, and it’s a travesty that we didn’t dine here before. After our superb dinner, we won’t make that same mistake twice.

Salumeria 104 is located at 3451 NE 1st Ave #104 in Midtown. For hours of operation and other information, visit their official website or call 305-424-9588. The Coral Gables location on Miracle Mile is now open as well.
