The beauty of Miami Spice is that you can check out restaurants that would normally be out of your budget. Case in point: Cantina La Veinte, which is known for its flavorful Mexican cuisine by Chef Santiago Gomez. It’s not a place we can afford to visit regularly — it’s more of a special occasion spot for us — but it’s a place we wish we could eat at more often. The food is sensational.
Thankfully, Cantina La Veinte is participating in Miami Spice, so we can afford to eat there regularly (at least until September 30). And you better believe we will, as the restaurant is fully embracing the promotion by highlighting some exceptional fare. Best of all, you can indulge for lunch AND dinner.
Both the lunch menu and dinner menus are comprised of the restaurant’s most popular items, and the offerings change regularly. When we went, we had the chance to try both the lunch and dinner menus; neither of them disappointed. On the lunch side, items like a Tlacoyo de Arrachera (skirt steak on masa patties) and Enchiladas Verdes de Pollo (chicken enchiladas). Rounding out the meal for us was an Explosion de Maiz (literally, corn explosion). Portions are just right — we didn’t leave hungry nor did we hate ourselves. It’s a perfectly sized lunch and one we’d do again in a heartbeat.
For dinner, plates are just as filling. Our Tostada de Atun aka tuna tostada was a nice light bite that gave way to some succulent Braised Short Rib in an agave demi glace. The Crepas de Cajeta (crepes with Mexican caramel sauce) closed out a memorable dining experience and could have easily been split between two people. You really are getting your money’s worth here — if not more.
Whether you visit for lunch or dinner, Cantina La Veinte’s Miami Spice menu is a winner. And depending on how often you visit, no two experiences will be the same. There’s a possibility some of the items above are no longer available by the time you read this, but we’re certain their replacements are of equal caliber. Regardless, our opinion still stands: Make sure this Brickell gem is on your shortlist, or you’ll regret it once Miami Spice is over.
