When we last wrote about Cleo, we were blown away by the quality of the food — we couldn’t scarf down the dips, shawarma and other Mediterranean fare fast enough. The restaurant has since gone through a revamp, and it’s back and better than ever. We went in with big expectations, and the Redbury establishment did not disappoint. Days later, we were still enjoying our leftovers.
The menu at Cleo is meant for sharing, which kinda sucks since our experience was so good that we didn’t want to share anything. Our fantastic meal started with some veggies like the Greek Salad and Madras Curried Cauliflower — two fragrant and flavorful items. We complemented those with an order of Spicy Cigars (brik pastry) with spiced beef, lebaneh and feta. We’re suckers for lebaneh/labneh, and we thank Cleo for introducing us to this fabulous “yogurt cheese.” You can get it on its own, too, if you want — all we ask is that you get it in some shape or form.
Want dinner and a show? Order the Skillet Halloumi for its fiery entrance and then dig in. The real star of the show is the Moroccan Fried Chicken with apricot mustard and spiced duck fat — WOW! Definitely one of the tastiest birds we’ve had in a while; it was still so appetizing for dinner the next day. Following it with some Baklava was the perfect 1-2 punch to end our experience.
Easily one of the best restaurants we’ve tried this year, Cleo’s revamped offerings are not to be missed. If you’re hankering for some awesome Mediterranean food, they’ve got you covered. And don’t get us started again about that Moroccan fried chicken. Seriously, make sure you get it.
