When we heard Chef Jose Icardi was opening a new Mexican restaurant at Shore Club, we were intrigued. Chef Icardi, the culinary powerhouse behind Leynia at Delano South Beach, already won us over with tasty Argentinean cuisine, so we had high expectations for Diez y Seis. We expected the best, and that’s exactly what we got during our dinner there.
Last month, we spoiled ourselves with tacos in San Diego. It seemed like a good decision at the time, but trying our favorite Mexican dish over on the West Coast made us realize what we were missing over here in Miami. There’s no comparison: San Diego tacos — especially fish tacos — just taste better.
Coming back to South Florida, we weren’t sure we’d find anything close to the quality we experienced. Pilo’s Street Tacos in Brickell proved us wrong.
There’s officially a new taco spot in town: The Taco Stand. This California-based eatery has brought its Baja-inspired fare to Wynwood, where guests can enjoy tacos, burritos, quesadillas and other appetizing bites to satisfy their Mexican food cravings.
“In Santiago we trust.” That’s exactly what we were thinking after trying the new Mexican concept from Cantina La Veinte’s Executive Chef Santiago Gomez. Unlike Cantina, Tacology at Brickell City Centre is a more casual affair that emphasizes street food creations but also brings some upscale dishes along for the ride. Items are meant to be shared, but here’s the thing: The food is so good that you won’t want to.
When we hear the term “Mexican food,” the first thing that comes to mind is tacos. We blame this on late-night trips to Taco Bell in college and, more recently, all of the great taco spots that have opened up throughout the city: Coyo, Taquiza, Bodega … the list goes on.
To be honest, we’d be perfectly cool with eating tacos and queso fundido — our other kryptonite — every day. But a few recent visits to Olla opened our eyes to cuisine beyond tortillas and melted cheese. The new Mexican eatery from Coyo Taco’s Scott Linquist just took over the former AltaMare space on Lincoln Road, and it’s already on track to become a local favorite.
