Let’s face the facts: Dining out can be an expensive experience. Thanks to Miami Spice, though, it doesn’t have to be. You can easily dine at some of the city’s best restaurants for a fraction of the cost for two months. As a diner, it’s in your best interests to pick places normally out of your price range. For us, one of those places is Alter.
The award-winning restaurant is known for its creative tasting menus that command a premium (and rightfully so). While it’s worth the price tag, that price tag makes it a place that we reserve for special occasions. During Miami Spice, however, it’s a completely different story. For just $39, you have your choice of several spectacular dishes that make up those tasting experiences.
Appetizers-wise, there’s the beloved Soft Egg with sea scallop espuma, a light, refreshing Snapper Crudo and a colorful Rajas Infladitas with Oaxaca cheese and avocado mousse that’s to die for. Regardless of which item you choose, expect to eat with your eyes and mouth; each dish’s presentation looks at home on Instagram.
Entrees include an Arctic Char, a Smoked Duck and a Lamb Belly that impress on all fronts. Again, the lovely presentation of the dishes excites the senses, and the offerings taste as good as they look. What wasn’t exciting: the names of the desserts. It’s hard to feel enthusiastic about Tamarind Plum and Radish & Cheese. But the names don’t paint the full picture; There’s a lot more going on with all of them than meets the eye. Just know that you’re in for a treat.
If Alter hasn’t been on your radar, shame on you. It should be, especially now that Miami Spice is winding down. The menu is easily one of the best values in town right now. And if you’re anything like us, you’ll leave so impressed that you’ll be back for a full tasting menu.
