JohnMartin’s to Reopen This Fall

When the famed Irish pub, JohnMartin’s closed this past year, the community was understandably disappointed. Like many other bars and restaurants, the Coral Gables staple (which opened in 1989) was negatively impacted by COVID-19 and was forced to close. Today, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Breakwater Hospitality Group (BHG) is pleased to announce that they, in partnership with Erick Passo, owner of Downtown’s Black Market Miami, will renovate and reopen the storied Irish eatery in Fall 2021.

“JohnMartin’s had a tremendous impact on South Florida’s bar scene, and you will be hard-pressed to find a restaurant or bar that rivals their iconic status and reputation for hospitality,” said Emi Guerra, co-owner of BHG. “Our team is proud to breathe new life into JohnMartin’s and to continue the tradition of providing the same welcoming service but with a fresh new look and feel suited for the times.”

The original owners, Martin Lynch and John Clarke, are pleased to see their legacy carried on by the group. Lynch, who served as the long-time face of JohnMartin’s said, “They are carrying on a 30-year tradition. It’s great seeing our vision evolve into something new that we know everyone will enjoy for at least another 30 years to come.”

Along with new ownership, there will be an updated look and feel to the restaurant. BHG has tapped the award-winning design firm, Big Time Design Studio to lead the design project and reimagining of the space. The building that houses JohnMartin’s is owned by Miami-based Terranova Corporation, which aims to create a multi-functional environment in Downtown Coral Gables.

“We want to offer vibrant and practical urban spaces where the community can live, work, and play,” said Stephen Bittel, Terranova Chairman. “Our goal is to continue to grow while supporting these long-standing businesses that have been hit so hard this past year.”

JohnMartin’s is located at 253 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.
