High above Downtown Miami, Area 31 at Kimpton EPIC Hotel is serving up sustainable seafood and other tasty fare day in and day out. The restaurant recently welcomed a new chef — Alex Olivier — who’s brought flavors and techniques from his world travels to the 305. The result: all-around excellent food that pairs beautifully with the restaurant’s skyline view.
Travel is one of life’s greatest pleasures, but it’s not exactly the most affordable. With Area 31, though, you can experience cuisine from all around the world without breaking the bank. Last month, the restaurant debuted a new monthly series — Menu Trotting With Chef Wolfgang Birk — that highlights a specific region’s fare for an entire week. At $55 (and $20 for an optional wine tasting), it’s a steal.

Over the past year, we’ve interviewed many members of the hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers. That’s why we launched an ongoing feature called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets. Know someone who wants to be featured? Email us at email@example.com.
This week, we’re featuring Wolfgang Birk, Executive Chef of Area 31, and his Rottweilers, Moby and Ria.
