Since starting the blog, we’ve interviewed many members of the hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers. That’s why we launched an ongoing feature called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets. Know someone who wants to be featured? Email us at bark@miamifoodpug.com.
This week, we’re featuring Richard Torres, Executive Chef at The Continental, and his English bulldog, Princess.
Your Name: Richard Torres
Your Pet’s Name: Princess
Sex: Female
Age: 3.5 years old
Breed: English bulldog
How did you come to own your dog? What drew you to her?
When I was a little kid, I always wanted an English bulldog. My wife and I joined Princess to our family prior to our wedding as our wedding gift.
What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
Since day one, she became territorial and took over every inch of the house. She also required lots of attention, so she became the “Princess” of the house.
How would you describe your dog’s personality?
Lazy, jealous, and smart!
How has owning a pet made your life richer?
Owning a dog definitely enriched my life with care, company and a sense of responsibility.
It’s said that dogs reflect their owners and vice versa. How does this apply to you and yours?
In my case, we share personalities. We are very determined, grumpy at times, and we know when to ignore — especially when we get in trouble. 🙂
Tell us a funny story about you and your dog(s).
When Princess was 3 months old, my wife (at that time, my girlfriend) took her to her parents’ house. I work one of those 16-hour days and forgot she had Princess. When I arrived to my apartment, Princess was not there. Due to the impression, I lost my mind thinking someone stole her and I started ripping my place apart. When I was about to call the police, my wife called me and I immediately remember where Princess was but I looked back and it was too late! :/
