The Color Run: The Happiest 5K on the Planet Comes to Sun Life Stadium

Our Saturday mornings are usually reserved for sleep, but when we were offered the chance to cover The Color Run at Sun Life Stadium, we jumped at the opportunity. There was no way we would miss what’s known as the Happiest 5K on the Planet.

So on November 14, we made it out to the stadium to see what the Color Run was all about (and burn off calories from earlier in the week). For those who don’t know, The Color Run is a 5K race with different color stations spaced throughout the course. At each of these stations, you’re bombarded with a particular color powder (a mix of cornstarch, baking soda and FD&C dyes). By the end of the race, you’re practically a walking rainbow.

And that we were. During the race, we stopped through four different color stations (yellow, magenta, orange and blue) with a special sparkle zone at the end, which is a new station launched this year as part of The Color Run’s 2015 Shine Tour. At certain ALCATEL ONETOUCH stops throughout the course, we paused for fun photo ops to share on social media. It was a nice way to see how our once-white shirts progressed into paint palettes.

The race itself was just half the fun – the other half was the post-run festival comprised of music and massive color throws. At regular intervals, the crowd was provided with powder color packets – which were then launched in unison. Check out the video below to see the spectacle.

All the jumping wore us out, so we recharged with some free KIND bars and Crystal Light. Although we were worried about getting the car all stained with our colors, it was all for naught. There was a Shout station with volunteers blowing up most of the powder with snow blowers; we wiped up any remainder with some towels.

After we left the race, we couldn’t help but feel happy about the whole experience. It was our first Color Run, and we’re already counting down for the next one in March at Fort Lauderdale. Hopefully, we’ll see you there.
