Trust is earned. There aren’t many places where we feel comfortable putting our full trust in the chef, but Azabu is one of them. The Asian restaurant’s omakase experience, which takes place at its private sushi bar, provides guests with an intimate meal they’ll be thinking about long after it’s done. That’s exactly what happened after our multi-course affair that tantalized all five senses.
Reservations are taken by phone only and spots fill up fast, so the sooner you call, the better. Upon your arrival, the host will walk you behind the main dining room to The Den, where your culinary journey begins. This is where that trust comes into play: The chef has already pre-selected a variety of items to tempt your taste buds.
In our case, we enjoyed everything from Japanese Escabeche and Grilled King Crab to a nigiri tasting and hand rolls. You can expect everything to be super fresh and plated with the utmost care. What not to expect: big portions. Each item we tasted that night lasted a bite or two, but in the end, it added up to a wholly satisfying experience. You will not leave hungry — you’ll leave happy.
