Opening Soon: Velvet Taco

On Monday, September 23, Velvet Taco, the acclaimed restaurant brand known for its bold, globally inspired tacos, chef-driven sidekicks and “Boozy Libations,” will make its highly anticipated debut in Wynwood, Miami’s cultural arts district. This marks the brand’s second Florida location, following its successful Fort Lauderdale opening in 2023.

The grand opening begins at 11 a.m., when the first 100 guests will receive an exclusive Velvet Taco hat. Upon entering, diners are invited to order from Velvet Taco’s scratch-made, one-of-a-kind taco menu, choose from its innovative list of Boozy Libations and discover the Backdoor Chicken, a secret menu item for those in the know. Additionally, guests will be encouraged to enter for a chance to win free tacos for an entire year. As an added bonus, the first 500 entrants will receive an exclusive Free Taco reward.

“Following our success in Fort Lauderdale, we’re thrilled to bring our scratch-made tacos to Wynwood, a community that aligns with our brand values of innovation, fun and culturally diverse cuisine,” said Mark Mohammed, general manager of Velvet Taco Wynwood. “We can’t wait to join this artistic community of trendsetters and creatives.”

The expansive new location features a thoughtfully designed space that blends Velvet Taco’s signature industrial aesthetic with Wywnood’s vibrant and artistic flair. Bold, abstract murals by Miami-based global art group The Color Dreamers adorn the interior and exterior, reflecting the brand’s quirky and playful spirit while paying tribute to the area.

Guests can experience Velvet Taco’s signature lineup of over 20 boundary-breaking tacos, each scratch-made with seasonal and high-quality ingredients. Fan favorites include Korean Fried Rice, made with gochujang egg fried rice; Spicy Tikka Chicken, made with crisp tenders and spicy tikka sauce; and Cuban Pig, made with slow-roasted pulled pork.

Those craving a celebratory cocktail on opening day can raise a glass at Velvet Taco’s first full-service cocktail bar. Signature Boozy Libations like Kick-Ass Margaritas and Frozen Sangrita will be served alongside new Miami-inspired creations such as Electric Lemonade, Spicy Watermelon Fresca and Bad Ass Mojito.

Got a sweet tooth? The brand’s namesake Red Velvet Cake, made in-house daily, will also be available. This super-moist double-layered cake topped with cream cheese frosting and the signature cajeta sauce is the perfect way to cap off the festivities.
