Wag Wednesday: Danny Serfer & Bacon

Over the past year, we’ve interviewed many members of the  hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers. Today, we’re launching a new series for the next few weeks called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets.

It’s only appropriate that we start with one of our favorite chefs who happens to own a pug named Bacon: Danny Serfer of Mignonette and Blue Collar. You may remember Bacon from a few Mignonette pictures we’ve posted in the past.

Your Name: Daniel Serfer

Your Pet’s Name: Bacon

Sex: Male

Age: 7

Breed: Pug

How did you come to own your dog(s)? What drew you to them?

There was a girl who lived in the other building of my complex, and I wanted to talk to her. I always saw her walking her dog. One day I was walking through the lobby and there was a post that someone else in the building was selling pug puppies. I always had pugs growing up, and I wanted to talk this girl so boom — I bought one. I am no longer friends with said girl, but I love my pug Bacon very much.

How would you describe your dog’s personality?

Fat, Sweet, chill and lazy.

How has owning a pet made your life richer?

It taught me to be less selfish by having to take care of something besides myself. It also helped me land my wife who loves him very much, too.

It’s said that dogs reflect their owners and vice versa. How does this apply to you and yours?

We both rely on my wife Shoshana to take care of us. And when I’m walking him, we both appreciate short walks. Also, we will both eat about anything.

Tell us a funny story about your and your dog.

He frequently will get up on his hind legs, stand straight up, and push my 18-month-old down to the floor and eat whatever my son had in his hand.

Are you involved in any pet organizations or philanthropies?

No. but I’d like to be.

We follow a lot of dog social media accounts like Doug the Pug and Menswear Dog. Do you? Which are your favorites?

You guys.
