MFP’s Picks of the Month – August 2018

picks-of-the-month
If you haven’t noticed, we go out to eat a lot. It’s sometimes hard to keep track of the best spots we’ve visited each month (and week and day). That’s why we’ve decided to put together a monthly list of our top picks. You can expect restaurants both young and old on this list — we’re always discovering new spots on our foodie adventures.

Here are our top picks for August 2018.

Fooq’s

If there’s a Miami Spice menu you need to try in Downtown Miami, it’s Fooq’s. The unassuming restaurant, known for its Persian/Mediterranean cuisine, has been a favorite of ours for a while, but this latest menu is hands down the best version of Fooq’s yet.

For starters, get the crispy Brussels sprouts with honey glaze and then opt for the kebab platter. The name sounds basic, but the dish is anything but — trust us. And when we say dessert will change your life, we mean it: The blonde cremeux is one of the best desserts we’ve had since starting the blog five years ago. Read our full Miami Spice review here.

Seven Dials

We love big portions, and we cannot lie. Seven Dials delivers them in spades for Miami Spice. Choices are plentiful, so we’ll make the decision easy for you: Vietnamese ceviche, whole Cornish hen and English tea creme brulee. Those should be your top three choices.

Otherwise, opt for the vegetarian shepherd’s pie, confit pork loin and the chocolate Guinness pot de creme. Honestly, there’s no point in giving you our recommendations — it’s all #*@!ing good. Just go.

Itamae

Four words: best sushi in Miami. There’s nothing to say that we haven’t said before except check out the specials board for some crazy awesome creations.

Sansara

Magic is happening at Tinta y Cafe every Sunday for brunch: Sansara, a weekly popup, is serving rethought Cuban food and other delicious fare. Reservations are highly recommended, as it’s packed each week.

Highlights include a shrimp roll with enchilado lobster butter and malanga chips — addicting AF — and the papaya salad piled high with masitas de puerco. Guests with a sweet tooth will thoroughly enjoy the pancakes with orange creamsicle icing. Don’t forget a cafe con leche.

Blue Collar

Your diet starts never at Blue Collar, especially during Miami Spice. We caught the tail end of the August menu, which featured greatest hits like the the parm and braise of the day, three-cheese mac, crispy skin branzino, pork n beans and seared diver scallops.

For the entire month of September, though, the entire menu is up for grabs. Chef Danny Serfer is letting guests choose three items off the regular menu for the usual Miami Spice price. It’s a steal, and one you should take advantage of before September 30.
