Marion: A Welcome Addition to Brickell

We don’t even know where to start with this article. Why? Because we’re still recovering from the mindblowing lunch we experienced at Marion, one of Brickell’s latest additions. The Mediterranean bistro, whose kitchen is led by Michelin-caliber Chef Jean Paul Lourdes, is pumping out some terrific cuisine in an equally terrific atmosphere.

Marion is actually five concepts in one: a restaurant, a bakery, a market, an oyster bar and a café. When you first walk in, it can be a little overwhelming with so much going on. But once you settle in, prepare for a culinary experience like no other.

Our lunch began with a basket of bread, which featured a tasty selection of loaves; you can take some home for just $4.50. At that price, the bread is a steal — especially the focaccia and fruit bread, which burst with flavor at every bite. Before we knew it, we had finished the basket. We’ve actually already gone back to Marion just for the bread. Calling it crack would be an understatement.

What followed was nothing short of delectable. The tuna ribbons from the raw bar did not disappoint, tantalizing our senses from the moment they landed on the table. The dish’s fragrant spices lived up to their reputation, making the tuna taste as good as it smelled. Our other starter – the wild arugula salad – appears simple at first glance but looks are deceiving. The avocado, lemon balm and chili create some complex flavor and heat that really make the dish a stand out. If you opt for the $24 pre-fixe lunch menu (an absolute must), don’t pass this item up.

As for the entrees, you can’t go wrong with the Bomba Rice, an appetizing entree that just pops (or more appropriately, explodes). The saffron tastes right at home in this dish, and the king prawn sits nicely atop this delicious throne. For those who prefer spice, the gargenelli should be your go-to. It’s a good portion size, the tuna and pasta pair together perfectly and the Calabrian chili make for some notable spice. Our server warned us that the dish was extremely spicy, but we didn’t find it that hot – you might think otherwise, though.

Where Marion really shines is dessert. Prepare to leave with a mouthful of cavities (worth it). It’s easy to eat with your eyes here, especially when they bring out the tray of tarts; we literally asked ourselves, “Is this what heaven is like?” When your customers are comparing your food to the afterlife, you know you’re onto something. There’s really no wrong choice when it comes to dessert — except skipping it. Our chocolate mousse tart and vanilla profiteroles were as decadent as you’d expect (NO REGRETS).

So yeah, go make a reservation at Marion this very instance. We loved it for lunch and we’re sure it’s just as good for dinner. Not in the mood for a full meal? Stop by the café and pick up a coffee and some goodies. Once you walk into this beautiful spot, we guarantee you won’t leave without ordering something.
