Geoff here. If you know me in real life, then you know I love bourbon. There’s just something to it that vodka, gin or [insert your favorite spirit] doesn’t have. So when I had the opportunity to check out a Coopers’ Craft Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey event and enjoy some free drinks, I couldn’t pass it up.
The Coopers’ Craft event was held at House Kitchen & Bar in Coral Gables. Prior to this event, I had never heard of either Coopers’ Craft or House. Thanks to the South Florida Bloggers, that’s no longer the case.
Here’s what I learned about Coopers’ Craft:
1. It’s part of the Brown-Forman family. This is the parent company for Jack Daniel’s, Woodford Reserve and other spirits you’ve likely tried. With such a big name behind the brand, you should have no problem finding it in stores here.
2. It’s the first new bourbon brand to join the Brown-Forman lineup in roughly two decades. Twenty years is a long time, so you better believe that this is some damn good bourbon (Editor’s Note: It is.)
3. It uses a special beech and birch charcoal finishing process. Here’s what this means for you: bourbon that’s extra smooth and flavorful. It’s easier to drink than other whiskeys, so if it’s your first foray into the beautiful world of whiskey, this is the perfect starting point.
4. It’s extremely versatile. One of the things we learned at the House event is that Coopers’ Craft can work for a TON of cocktails; its smooth flavor (see point #3) makes it more flexible than similar bourbons. Check out The Blogger Union’s recap for three of the recipes we learned and then get to experimenting!
