When Federal Donuts closed earlier this year, we were bummed. Not just because we lost some great donuts, but also because we lost some damn good fried chicken. Thankfully, Le Chick in Wynwood — just a stone’s throw away from FedNuts — is doing an exceptional job filling that void (and more).
Inspired by Dutch hotspot Rotisserie Amsterdam, Le Chick is all about its namesake poultry: Whether you opt for rotisserie chicken or fried chicken, there is no wrong choice. Both versions of the protein tantalize the taste buds at prices that don’t damage your bank account. In fact, their happy hour is a steal with discounts on already reasonably priced food. That Crispy Buttermilk Fried Chicken is worth any price tag, to be honest.
If you think chicken is the only thing this place offers, think again. Joining the signature protein on the menu are delectable bites like BBQ Ribs and a handful of burgers/sandwiches that will turn you into a repeat customer. The Royale with Cheese is large with lots of flavor going on, including a secret sauce that had us licking our lips; it’s a good deal, too — we split the two-patty burger between both of us easily.
Sides are hefty as well, so make room for some fries. We had the Jalapeno Cheese Fries, which were so good that we need to go back and try the other options (we’re looking at you, truffle fries). Not everything is going to send you to the gym: Lighter selections like the Chicken Apple Salad and Roasted Carrots help provide some balance to the menu and much less guilt. Still, you’re not going to want to miss dessert. The Chocolate Goodie Jar lives up to its name with a ton of chocolate-y goodness and vanilla ice cream. It literally is a chocolate lover’s dream.
When it comes to quality and price, Le Chick’s fried chicken is tough to beat. It’s one of our favorite birds in town, and the happy hour pricing is ridiculously cheap (emphasis on ridiculously). So if you don’t feel like a full meal, just stop in from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and take advantage. Take our word for it, though: You will be back.
