Los Angeles, we love you and hate you at the same time. You’re an amazing city that reminds us of the best parts of Miami as well as the worst parts. The best: diverse people, beautiful beaches and lots of things to do. The worst: the horrendous, no-good traffic. Somehow, you have us beat in that department.

That West Coast vibe, though — that’s something we’ll never find in South Florida, and it’s something that keeps us going back to L.A. regularly. Our latest trip to the City of Angels was a short one; San Diego stole our hearts this time around. But while we spent just a day in Los Angeles, we still did a lot — and so can you if only have 24 hours.

MFP Destinations: Staycation at The Confidante

We’re spoiled here in Miami. We have beautiful beaches in our backyard that we can visit whenever we feel like it. It’s easy to take a day on the sand and in the sun for granted.

Nothing has made us appreciate this proximity more than a weekend staycation. Sure, other neighborhoods like Wynwood have just as many attractions and activities to offer, but there’s something special here you can’t find on the mainland: The Confidante Hotel.

La Fresa Francesa is fantastic. The Hialeah French restaurant (yes, you read that correctly) has become a neighborhood staple with its delectable dishes and friendly faces, and the latest venture from its owners is poised for the same success. Normandy Isle’s Silverlake Bistro, which gets its name from the owners’ time in Southern California, is fairly different from its sister eatery but shares one big similarity: quality.
