Florida Fish – Farm to Table Event

Sereia Films, a local seafood education nonprofit, has teamed up with Slow Food Miami for a night of seafoodie fun on Thursday, April 27, 2023. The event will be held at the University of Miami’s Wetlab from 6PM to 9PM located on Key Biscayne. Sereia Films is a non-profit organization founded by Sarah Curry, a Miami-based film maker, that creates seafood education content to raise awareness on environmental issues through documentary films and outreach programs.

The event will be designed in a tasting table format and feature an exclusive pre-screening of Sereia Films latest documentary shorts premiering on PBS this May. Chefs are invited to arrive at 5:30PM to speak to the farms directly. Sereia Films uses films and outreach events to educate chefs and consumers about local seafood practices. Florida is home to many sustainable seafood farms and guests will be treated to samples of their products and meet the farmers who raise the fish and oysters.

Guests are also invited to enjoy cocktails from the bar watching the sunset over the water and visit The Lazy Oyster shucking station. The featured Florida farms featured will include Sun Shrimp, Treasure Coast Shellfish, Atlantic Sapphire, Aquaco, Suncoast Tilapia and IROC Oysters.

The tasting menu will feature Sun Shrimp Pesto skewers, Aquaco Pompano fish tacos, Atlantic Sapphire smoked salmon, Suncoast Tilapia ceviche, and raw Treasure Coast and IROC. Tickets to attend this event are available for purchase for $15 and all proceeds will benefit the Slow Food Miami Slow Fish Program. Purchase tickets here.

Earth Day Celebration at La Mar

To celebrate Earth Day, La Mar by Gastón Acurio will feature a special dessert available exclusively through Sunday April 23. Named El Jardin, the sweet treat will feature rosemary honey ice cream, lavanda crème anglaise, dark chocolate and pollen crumble ($16). The key ingredient of sustainably, locally sourced honey is meant to highlight the vital role bees play in pollinating vegetables and fruits, in addition to their production of honey and wax.

Due to the alarming and unprecedented decline rate in its population, Mandarin Oriental initiated a beekeeping program several years ago, with the objective of all hotels to invest in a minimum of two beehives, either to be housed on property or by working with a local beekeeper off-site. This initiative is part of the Group’s larger sustainability goals of implementing a strong sustainability governance structure across the brand.
