Salumeria 104: An Unforgettable Dining Experience

Every day, a new restaurant opens in Miami … or at least it seems like it. Given Miami’s fierce food scene, odds are they won’t last. It takes a lot for a restaurant to withstand the test of time and the city’s fickle food audience. Salumeria 104 has been a Midtown staple for years, and unlike other restaurants in the area, it’s succeeding — so much so that it’s expanded to the space next door (and to Coral Gables).

That growth says a lot. But despite it being open for a while now, we never actually visited Salumeria 104 until last month. We regret not visiting sooner.

Proof Miami: Thanks for the Memories

Since starting Miami Food Pug back in 2014, we’ve seen plenty of restaurants come and go in the Miami food scene. It’s almost like a revolving door: One eatery closes and another three pop up in its place — and then the cycle repeats itself.

It wasn’t until last week, though, that a loss hit close to home. Proof Miami, a place we’ve frequented almost as long as our blog has existed, shut its doors for good.

wag-wednesday

Since starting the blog, we’ve interviewed many members of the hospitality industry, and one constant among the interviewees has been a profound love for their pets. We thought it would be great to share this love with our readers.

That’s why we launched an ongoing feature called “Wag Wednesday” to showcase industry peeps and their pets. Know someone who wants to be featured? Email us at bark@miamifoodpug.com.

This week, we’re featuring Paul Guzman, Manager of Beaker & Gray, and his American Bulldog Mix, Stu. Read more

#FindMeAHomeFriday: Paxil – Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill

Chicken Thighs from Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill in Midtown

This is Paxil. He’s 10 years old, and he’s Pugley’s son. He’s great with kids, cats, and dogs.

He loves going outside and exploring the backyard so having a fenced yard is a plus. He loves walking outside, too, and gets really excited when the leash comes out! His tail is always wagging so you know he’s always in a great mood. His vision isn’t the greatest, and he does require medicated eye drops. However, he’s a great listener and always comes when called.

For more information on this love bug of a pug, visit his adoption page.

Oyster fans have a new Miami eatery to visit and dig into their favorite mollusk: Midtown Oyster Bar. Helmed by Angelo Masarin of Salumeria 104 fame, MOB brings an exceptional — and extensive — New England oyster menu to the bustling Midtown Miami neighborhood; touches of Mediterranean and Latin influence have been brought along for the ride as well.  We had a chance to try out some of the menu and speak with Masarin himself about the new concept.
